Creative Crosswords will present "Nature Exposed" with public readings by Jan Conn and Lois Walden at the Stanford Grange.
Jan Conn will read from her newest and ninth book of poems called "Tomorrow’s Bright White Light" (Tightrope Books, 2016), while Lois Walden will read from nonfiction book "Pilgrim at Tinker Creek" by author Annie Dillard, published in 1974.
"Tomorrow's Bright White Light" is a collection are of "offbeat and secretive childhood events" taken from a viewpoint of both males and females, according to a news release.
Some of these pertain to the struggles of today, while others come from the poet's past in Latin America.
Jan Conn is also a biologist, and there will be poems read that have a natural theme.
A native of Quebec, she has a Ph.D. in genetics from the University of Toronto. Conn currently studies the evolution and ecology of pathogen-transmitting mosquitoes at the Wadsworth Center, state Department of Health, in Albany, said the release.
Dillard's journals were used as inspiration for "Pilgrim at Tinder Creek," a firsthand story that deals with "her explorations and contemplations on nature and life around Tinker Creek" in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, through all seasons of a year.
Lois Walden is a writer, singer, songwriter, librettist, record producer, performer and teaching artist who lives in the Hudson Valley, said the release.
She has traveled for the Acting Company to teach teens in small towns and inner cities how to "tap into their emotions" via classic theater and literature.
Creative Crossroads’ mission is to give artists of all disciplines space to reach a local audience.
